OUR VOLUNTEERS
At the Family Support Center of Ojochal our volunteers make all the difference to the families we help. They deliver food and vouchers, they check in on progress, they operate La Manita, our thrift shop, and they support our fundraising events.
Recognizing the contributions of these generous members of our community is one way to say Thank You!
Some of our volunteers are only here part time – snowbirds from North America, or others who still have a footprint in a place they call ‘home’. While their time here each year may be limited, they still want to be connected with and contribute to the Ojochal community.
Here is a profile of Tina Shier!
Tina is a volunteer at La Manita and helps out with our fundraising events.
She and her husband Jim retired to rural Ontario having lived in Toronto much of their lives. They spend 3 months a year in Ojochal, escaping the worst of winter, but continue to have many strong ties to family and friends in Canada.
Tina spends time reading, working on crafts and baking, but her true passion is volunteering. A Registered Nurse who worked with children and youth with physical disabilities, Tina has always believed it is important to give back to your community. In Ontario, she sits on the Board of Directors of the local hospital.
La Manita is especially important to Tina. “It gives me the opportunity to meet the local Ticos and others in the community and to practice my Spanish”.
