At the Family Support Center of Ojochal our volunteers make all the difference to the families we help. They deliver food and vouchers, they check in on progress, they operate La Manita, our thrift shop, and they support our fundraising events.

Recognizing the contributions of these generous members of our community is one way to say Thank You!

Some of our volunteers are only here part time – snowbirds from North America, or others who still have a footprint in a place they call ‘home’. While their time here each year may be limited, they still want to be connected with and contribute to the Ojochal community.

Here is a profile of Barb McGivern!

Another La Manita volunteer, Barb and her husband Bruce live in Ontario, Canada, and call Ojochal home for 5 months every year.

A Registered Nurse who worked in the Emergency Department and at the Toronto International Airport, Barb is happy to be a "pensionado" who has enjoyed the heat, sun and beaches of Costa Rica as an escape for the frigid winter for the past 10 years.

Now, she fills her days walking the dog on the mountain roads, lounging in the pool, reading and dining out in one of Ojochal’s many wonderful restaurants.

Barb’s connection with FSCO started when she helped out at the semi-annual Garage Sale. The great people and fun environment left her wanting more. Now a regular volunteer Barb says, "I get to participate in the wonderful, friendly community spirit of La Manita. The Center provides a service that helps us all recycle clothing and household goods."
